St. Margaret’s Church and School – Sharing God’s Word together
Thanks to the foresight of our first Vicar, the reverend Dr. Arthur Butler, Olton is blessed not only with a wonderful Church, but also a wonderful primary school. Especially at this time of vacancy, it is important to recognise the strong bond between the Church and School and celebrate this wonderful asset in our community.
As Holy Week approached, St Margaret’s school was focusing on forgiveness and what that looks like in our community. Mrs. Martin, the Head Teacher, wrote in the School Newsletter, “…It is easy to talk about forgiveness, so much harder to put into practice and very easy to behave as if forgiveness is something we only receive, not our gift to give, because Jesus first forgave us. I had a lovely conversation with a child this week about how we sometimes say we are sorry but then continue to let others down or when sometimes others say they are sorry to us but we are to or unwilling to forget. As we journey to the cross may we all know that Jesus’ love and forgiveness for us were undeserved, complete and unlimited.”
On the 23rd March the whole School came to Church to celebrate Easter and class 5 lead the service with Mrs. Martin. There was a dramatic re-enactment of the events of Holy Week and some wonderful singing by members of class 5 who are in the Church Choir. The Easter Flower shown was made by pupils and completed during the service. It is made up of a series of tear drops showing the sorrow of Easter week, but when the last petal is added it becomes a wonderful symbol of resurrection and new life.
For those of us who are parents of St. Margaret’s pupil’s it is wonderful to know our Children are being brought up in such a wonderfully caring Christian environment.
