WHAT’S HAPPENING IN THE CHURCH GARDEN?
Well, we have some very interesting things going on! We had a garden working party on Saturday 16th April, which was a good session followed by our usual treat of teas, coffees and bacon butties together with our usual friendly gathering to reflect on our efforts. It might never have happened because at 08.30 it was snowing quite hard and it was so damp and cold that we nearly called it off. However, nine brave souls turned up and the weather quickly improved so that we were able to get started.
Brian had previously built a rockery in the Spencer Hall garden by the choir vestry gate and had put a few plants in to start it off. He has now added several more plants and covered the feature with some horticultural grit to finish it off.
Janet, Brian and Fran worked in the wedding lawn area, defining the borders and generally tidying the area up. The weeds were cleared by the Spencer Hall entrance and window area and along the main church entrance wall. Tony did some clearing of weeds in the Spencer Hall garden in which we hope to make a herb patch and also he put in three new plants which were kindly donated. Paul tidied up the corner plot at the Warwick Road end of Old Warwick Road. Once again Brian and Sandra kept us nourished with tea, coffee and delicious bacon rolls. So, as you can see, it was, once again a very rewarding and successful event. We have some further plans to do some more improvement work and obviously to keep up the same level of maintenance. If anyone has any alpines or other rockery plants that they could spare, we can add them to the new rockery so that it can be filled up. Please see Janet or Brian so that we can arrange to get them planted. We are forever indebted to people who kindly donate plants and also some very useful garden equipment.
Happy gardening,
Janet and Brian.
