Hedgehogs…
During the 1950’s there were an estimated 30 million hedgehogs in the UK. Today the number is thought to be less than 1 million. Solihull is a designated Hedgehog Improvement Area. Simon Thompson the Senior Hedgehog Officer would like our help to improve the position of Solihull hedgehogs. Firstly the team would like to know of any sightings of hedgehogs (alive or dead) to enable them to get a more accurate idea of the hedgehogs in our area. Sightings should be reported at www.helpforhedgehogs.co.uk/sightings .Second, improve your garden for hedgehogs. This is as easy as making sure there are a few small gaps under your fencing so that the hedgehogs can travel between gardens. Third, volunteer as an hedgehog surveyor. Fourth, make a donation to Warwickshire Wildlife Trust’s Hedgehog Improvement Area. Simon Thompson can be contacted via simon.thompson@wkwt.org.uk or The Parkridge Centre, Brueton Park, Solihull, B91 3HW.
